Phil McKinney Shows Phantom (webOS?) Devices

Twitter user @MarkatHP (none other than Mark Budgell, PR Manager at HP) posted a couple of pictures of HP’s CTO Phil McKinney holding (and wearing?) three different mystery devices.

Phil himself then retweeted the post, giving it all sorts of additional credence.

From this chain of evidence, we’re led to conclude that these are prototypes of a tablet, a smartphone, and a Dick Tracy communicator wristwatch. It’s also implied that voting for Phil’s panel at SXSW 2011 might result in us learning more about these devices, which of course means that all webOS enthusiasts know what to do. I’m not sure how that relates, because SXSW isn’t until March of 2011, by which time we should already know everything we want to know. Even so, go vote.

What’s not clear is what relationship these prototypes hold to real devices that we might one day (soon?) be able to hold in our hot little hands, nor if perhaps this is a harbinger of more information to come. What we can say, though, is that this is the sort of teasing that we expect to happen before real stuff starts coming, and if it doesn’t, then it’s the cruelest teasing of all. After all, HP is well aware of how thirsty their webOS community is for information, right? And did I mention that the originator was Mark Budgell, PR Manager at HP?

Okay, HP and Palm, if this is the beginning, then let’s get to it! If this is just about futuristic devices to be discussed in March, then I’ll be—how can I put this delicately?—very sad.
