Dan Hesse: Sprint’s Not Switching to LTE

Looks like all that talk about Sprint switching to LTE from WiMAX for its 4G network can be ignored now. Gigaom reported on Friday that Dan Hesse, Sprint’s CEO, has apparently made it perfectly clear that WiMAX is Sprint’s future:

“Our 4G strategy is WiMAX, full stop,” said Dan Hesse, CEO of Overland Park, Kan.-based mobile phone company Sprint. In an interview, Hesse, a 33-year veteran of the telecom industry, said people should ignore all the talk about Sprint switching to LTE.

Folks who’ve purchased 4G phones recently based on WiMAX technology, such as the Evo 4G and Epic 4G, should rest assured that they won’t be left behind. And, we should look forward to a WiMAX-based webOS device sooner or later, although when that arrives remains an open question.
